+  One UK Domain name and Registration

Registration: The UK domain name of your choice* is registered to you. UK domains include .co.uk .org.uk .me.uk .ltd.uk .plc.uk. More info.

+  One years web hosting

Servers: You receive reliable web space hosted on multi-million pound servers located in a dedicated high security facility.

Bandwidth: High Visitor Bandwidth - the amount of data transferred by your Website. A suitable high level will be set to cope with visitor demand. In the very unlikely event of excessive visitor bandwidth for your site further charges would apply.

+  Email account(s)

Names: You choose whichever name(s) you would like i.e. info @mycompany.co.uk

Settings: I'll setup your initial email accounts and provide you with the settings for your current email program.

Secure Storage: A POP3 mail box stores emails on the web securely until you are ready to read them. You then collect and send emails securely via your email program (i.e. Outlook Express).

Email forwarders: Forward any email sent to one of your POP3 email accounts to your existing email address for example (one forwarder per account)

Email auto-responders: This allows you to have a pre-configured email message that is sent automatically from one of your POP3 accounts when an email is received (one auto-responder per account).

WebMail: View, send and receive email from your web browser - or anyone's web browser - anywhere in the world! If you need email on the move and require a 'hotmail' type email interface then this is perfect for you!

+  Search Engines

Optimisation: Your site will be coded and written with search engines in mind (enhanced optimisation available as an additional extra for customers wanting high search engine ranking).

Submission: Your completed web site is submitted to the following search engines for inclusion in their listings,

  • Google / Yahoo Webmatches / AOL
  • Overture / MSN / Hotbot
  • Lycos / All the Web

This covers around 98% of all search engines as a lot of the smaller search engines source their results from the larger ones. Be wary of companies offering submission to hundreds of search engines as you're opening yourself up to a torrent of spam email.

+  Photo enhancement

Enhancing: You want your photos to look their best to show off your products/services to their full. I'll enhance any photos provided as necessary to ensure this, such as sharpening, correcting brightness, exposure & colour balance.

Should your photos need a lot of enhancing and manipulation then our full photo restoration and photo enhancing services are available for an additional cost.

example of photo optimisation for the webWeb Optimisation: Pictures & Photos can have quite large file sizes. The larger the file, the longer it takes to download. I'll optimise each photo so it takes less time to load but still looks good. Example

  Web Design Frequently Asked Questions

 Q:  Do I need a web site?

A:  It depends on your business but it can't hurt to have web presence. My Starter Package (a single page "Business Card" web site) is only £165 and the benefits and kudos that gives you are more than worth it. Having a web site and professional email address will give you good standing, many people these days are of the mind set that "ooo they must be good they've got a web site!".

More and more people are using the internet to do background research on a product or company even if they don't buy online. A web site gives you 24/7 global presence and having a virtual showroom available 24 hours a day can be invaluable.

Imagine someone see's your advert in the yellow pages or local newspaper late at night. Normally by the morning they may have forgotten about you but if you have a web site straight away they can find out your opening hours, full details of your products, services and prices - even buy the product right there and then! All while you're tucked up in bed.

Q:  Do you do personal or individual web sites?

A:  Certainly. Whatever your web site requirements I aim to help. Perhaps you're a gardener wanting to provide more details on your services that would be too costly to include in a leaflet drop or newspaper advert. Or perhaps you want a personal site to let the world know about you're sizeable collection of rare teapots - if you have the money to pay for it then anything goes!*

* subject to UK laws and regulations of course.

Q:  We need a web site but don't know where to start.

A:  Don't worry, getting web presence for yourself or your company needn't be daunting. I have compiled a range of guides to assist you. Have a look through my web development guide for starters. If you just want a chat about your intended site or want to run an idea past me then please get in touch.

Q:  I need a web and email address but my content isn't ready.

A:  If you need a domain name / web site address / email address (to go on your Yellow Pages advert, Car/Van vinyl graphics, shop signage, business cards, etc.) but it's going to take a bit longer for you to sort your site content then don't worry.

Once your initial payment has been received I can register your domain name and put up a simple "holding page". This will inform visitors that your site is under development and give your basic contact details. Then you needn't rush to write your main web site wording.

Q:  How long will it be before my web site is ready?

A:  There'is no definitive answer. I provide a quality tailored design service and can only create a small number of sites a month. Factors are; my current workload and also the complexity of your site. On average the majority of sites are done within 2-3 weeks, I will keep you advised as much as possible.

Q:  What if I have a tight deadline?

A:  Let me know if your site is required urgently or for a certain date and I'll let you know if it's feasible. Depending on the circumstances a premium may be charged for "rush jobs".

Q:  How much will it cost?

A:  One of the trickier questions to answer as it is harder to quantify. I have 4 packages to cover some common budgets or web site requirements and these have a set price (but can be added to with optional extra's). As these won't cover every eventuality I have a custom web design service. If you need something more elaborate or with many pages then get in touch with your design brief or project outline. I will provide you with an estimate based on the information given.

Q:  Are there any other charges such as VAT?

A:  No VAT doesn't apply, the price you see is the price you pay. There are some factors which will add to the standard package charges and these are detailed on my site where relevant. These include; a surcharge for content not provided in electronic format, excessive design revisions, multiple domain name registration. If you want any added extra's e.g. 360° panoramic photos; then these will be at additional cost.

Q:  What payment methods do you accept?

A:  I can accept payments by cheque, cash and also by credit or debit card through PayPal. PayPal payments are subject to a 2.7% charge. If you use internet banking or BACS I can provide details for you to make an efficient bank transfer payment.

Q:  Is your web site hosting reliable?

A:  Yes. My web site hosting is maintained by a reputable company, one of Europe's leaders in its field. They have an acclaimed infrastructure and system professionals monitoring servers and security 24/7.

Don't worry your web site won't be hosted on an old computer in the corner of my office!

Q:  Do I have to have my site hosted by you?

A:  No but it is recommended. That way I can make sure you get the right web site hosting solution for the site I have designed. My hosting prices are competitive and my design packages include one year's free web hosting. If you wish to find your own hosting you will need to ensure it is adequate for the designed site.

Q:  How much content can I have per page?

A:  A web page could contain a single word or a whole novel. As a general guide I would say up to 400 words and 2-3 photos per page. It all depends on the content and its nature. After reviewing the content provided I might recommend a large page be split into 2 or 3 pages, or several small pages be combined. Often this will be done without additional "charge per page" cost.

Q:  Can you come and take some suitable photos?

A:  Yes, for clients not too far afield I can visit your premises to take photos of your products, premises, staff, etc. Additional costs will be involved, get in touch for details.

Q:  Do you use ready-made or "off the shelf" web page templates?

A:  No. I create a fresh design specifically for the person/business in question. Half the fun for me is creating a custom design. If you're looking for cheap, bog standard designs then please keep searching, although you may find that there's not much difference in price to my bespoke handiwork.

Q:  What if I spot any mistakes on my site after it's gone live?

A:  You'll get the chance to check your web site before it goes live but should any errors have slipped the net (no pun intended) then email me and I'll happily correct them for you.

Q:  Can I upgrade my site a few months down the line?

A:  Yes of course. Initially, if you want to test the www water with a smaller site and then find you need more pages, that's not a problem. Or if you have one of the cheaper packages and now feel a flashier site with increased design time spent on it is needed i.e. to better your company's image, also do-able. I can help you make your web site grow as your company grows.

Q:  What is this "favicon" thing ?

A:  Favicon or favorites icon. It's the symbol that appears in the browsers 'address box window' and 'bookmark listing'. A custom favicon is included with Standard, Premium and Custom Web Design Packages. It will be based on your site or company logo to reinforce your branding and help your page stand out - particularly in a favorites list. Please see my internet glossary definition for further details.
