Examples of repairs to badly damaged photos

Below are some very badly damaged photos we were able to repair under our Miracle Restoration Service.

Example #3: Repairing fire damaged photo
fire damaged blistered photo
full repair of fire damage

This photo was damaged in a fire, the heat causing the emulsion of the photo to blister. We were able to repair this photo using parts of the image which were in good condition. The yellow staining is completely removed and a final photo you'd never guess had barely survived a house fire.

Example #4: Restore badly damaged photo
broken board backed photo
missing sections recreated and damage repaired

This large "jigsaw" puzzle turned up at 2graphic in quite a state of disrepair. The original was about 20"x16" backed onto hardboard which had broken into several pieces. The top pieces were missing and heavy damage had occurred to the face.

We rose to the challenge and were able to restore this badly damaged photo. The pieces were lined up, stitched together and the cracks & creases digitally repaired. A new background was created matching the texture and photo grain of the original. The missing sections of the face were recreated and subtle highlights and shadows added.

A large format 20"x16" print was produced and the customer described the finished result as "fantastic".

Example #5: Recreating a large missing section
old photograph with big section missing
poor condition picture restored

This photo is in very poor condition not only is it heavily creased and stained but a large section of the corner is missing. Using parts of the photo that are in a reasonable condition we were able to reconstruct the missing corner. The creases were digitally erased and detail added in the bleached highlights. The restored photo made a great surprise birthday present for someone who thought no baby photos of them existed.

Example #6: Repair of a torn up photo

torn up photo seamlessly repaired

Here's a photograph that's taken some stick and torn into many pieces. It arrived at 2graphic patched together with sellotape but a couple of pieces had been lost. Fortunately the woman is facing straight on which helps us to recreate the missing piece of her face from the opposite side. The individual pieces are repositioned and the tears digitally repaired. Now that special moment is restored and as good as new.

Example #7: Restoration of an old flyer
Damaged ripped printed flyer
repair to rips and tears full restoration

This flyer had suffered more than a normal photo might as it was printed on standard paper. The top is the worst affected but a lot of the leaflet was crumpled. We isolated the photo and recreated the missing sections at the top. Crease damage was repaired along with the usual contrast and sharpness enhancement. The Band title was copied over and the text was redone using matching fonts. The end result - an excellent birthday present for one of the former Band members and a great reminder of his youth now restored & preserved.
