More about my background for those who are interested (continued from page one).

education

I studied at the Northumberland College Hawthorn Television Unit graduating with a HND in Design Communications (Television Production) where I learnt about various aspects of TV programme production along with photography and graphic design. My ability to adapt and learn quickly was recognised and appreciated by my peers when I was able to help them - in some cases where even the tutors struggled to.

traditional employment

I started my first job in Guildford for Bitcom International as their sole Graphic Designer back in 1996. My duties and achievements included:

  • Sole Graphic Designer for The World Sportsdesk, a global daily sports news TV programme
  • Excellent time management: worked to tight daily news deadlines amongst completing other broadcast and Corporate Video projects
  • Client consultation with presentations and story boarding
  • PC & Mac based, primarily used Photoshop, 3D Studio, Inscriber CG & Aladdin DVE
  • Created photo composites, multi-layered titles, caption/table layouts, Digital Video Effects - daily
  • Developed skills in 3D modeling & animation, used to create an animated sequence for Zurich Insurance as part of their company rebranding.
  • Developed skills in video editing and Desk Top Publishing
  • Learnt Adobe Illustrator "on the job" for a vector graphic illustration job on urgent exhibition stands
  • Managed and updated digital sports stills library
  • Trained and supervised others in basic operations

Unfortunately financial and contractual problems forced the World SportsDesk to close and put me out of a job.

back to Bradford

I moved back to Bradford and started working for Housing 21 a company providing housing and care services to older people. I was able to use my problem solving skills and apply them to financial matters creating "whizzy" spreadsheets in Excel to help create invoices, monitor cash flow and create reports. It wasn't long before my I.T. knowledge was being utilised as unofficial IT support and soon after I was redesigning forms and paperwork (most used Nationally) to maximise efficiency.

another change

I later moved into the Housing team and whilst providing some Customer Services set about streamlining my new tasks. It wasn't long before my duties included promotion and advertising. I was able to use my graphic design skills to create Powerpoint presentations for management, and leaflets & posters to advertise the company's housing and services.

A change in the company structure and tasks forced me to re-evaluate my situation. I left the company in 2003 and set up 2graphic so I could continue to learn, develop and keep my creative juices flowing.
